# Turn 006 Results — Hazelstead

## The grain comes home honestly

Nessa and Ilya walk the remaining plots separately. Most of the standing grain reaches a sound harvest window. The witnessed labor rotation brings it in by source, and Wen keeps the racks and roof edges ahead of the work.

One lower strip does not receive the same ending. A late storm lodges part of it while the heads are still uneven. Nessa orders the best standing portion cut early and marks it food-only. What lies wet and fouled is counted as loss. Nothing from that strip is blended into the sound grain, and nothing from the sealed seed reserve is used to make the harvest look larger.

The final account is adequate, not abundant. It contains sound food, a smaller lower-quality share for early use, an openly recorded loss, and a plantable reserve that remains what its label claims.

Tamm's water watcher stops one hurried drainage cut when workers begin throwing storm water toward a protected spring. The delay costs part of an afternoon. It also prevents the harvest emergency from creating next month's illness.

## The last Hearthspeaker assembly

The final assembly does not simply applaud a list.

Nessa supports the proposed seed custody and public reserve decision. Tamm supports the water stop but insists that every person who stops common work must explain the evidence at the next gathering. Beren says “evidence before expansion” cannot mean that cutters wait forever while opponents demand one more trial. Ilya answers with the dry-site runoff record rather than an accusation.

The village adopts all five practices with two amendments:

- Every stop authority must give a witnessed account at the next assembly.
- Every backup must accept the role willingly; no lead may assign a permanent burden merely by naming someone.

The dry-site record stays in the common archive. It proves useful access in dry weather and a real runoff cost. It authorizes no felling, household allocation, or permanent field. A future clearing proposal must name the water solution, labor, woodland loss, and decision date rather than hiding delay or haste inside “more evidence.”

Then the gathering answers the harder question.

It does not choose a new sole Hearthspeaker.

Instead, it chooses two hearth conveners for the next season, rotated and reviewed at each full assembly. Their power is to call the gathering, preserve the speaking order, and make sure the record is read back. They do not command Nessa's seed, Tamm's springs, Beren's axes, Ilya's coppice work, or household labor.

The first pair is Nessa and Beren.

Several people laugh at the choice, including Ilya. Nessa does not. Beren accepts after the assembly makes clear that neither convener can close a question by refusing to place it on the speaking order.

You give the Hearthspeaker's final account and step out of its exclusive place. You remain among Hazelstead's households, alive, respected, and available when asked. You no longer hold a permanent coordinating office.

## Through first frost

After the urgent harvest work eases, Ilya and a household witness carry Hazelstead's conduct record to Ava.

Ava receives it and produces Juniper Fold's own remembered terms: no cutting, no removal of signs, no new marks, and use of the named path only in the witnessed manner. She agrees that both communities will keep that restraint through first frost. She does not concede the ridge strip, settle title, promise permanent passage, or interpret peaceful use as ownership.

The two copies are not a border treaty. They are matching evidence of what neither side will do while the unresolved ground remains unresolved.

Lio adds his route instruction to the common record. Corren no longer measures his brother against the output he had before the broken ankle. Lio can teach, observe, and travel familiar short routes; no one promises that his old hunting work will return on a schedule.

## What Hazelstead leaves behind

- Most of the remaining sound harvest is secured; a storm-damaged share and real loss remain visible.
- The seed reserve stays sealed, plantable, and honestly counted.
- Seed custody, water stops, bounded work authority, evidence-before-expansion, and willing backups become reviewable village practices.
- The dry-site opportunity remains available but unspent because its runoff cost is unresolved.
- Hazelstead and Juniper Fold preserve reciprocal restraint through first frost without settling title.
- Sole Hearthspeaker coordination ends in favor of rotating, limited conveners.

At dusk, Nessa and Beren argue over the date of the first autumn assembly. Neither looks toward you to end the argument. Eventually they call for the witness slate and settle it in front of everyone.
